Track Listing:
(Note, the "U", "E" and "J" refer to what versions of the 4CD live set
the song can be found on. A "U" refers to the US version, a "J" to
the Japanese version, and an "E" to the European version. Combinations
of those letters simply mean that this same exact version can be found
on that combination of sets. Note that the sets share similar songlists,
but many of the songs are from different times and locations.)

Comments:

RC: If this is George Clinton's answer to the bootleg concert tapes that keep popping up, it's an eloquent one. Song credits are listed when they differ from the originals, and they differ wildly here. Perhaps this occurred as a result of putting this project together quickly. There is an incredible assortment of live material here, although the best by far is the 1978 material. The 1972 material is not of the greatest quality sound-wise, but it is very interesting. They also wisely put on one of their best live triumphs ever: "Comin' Round The Mountain"! This is from the Rocky Mountain Shakedown boot that's very popular, and it blows away the original studio tune. The 1993 material is a little weaker, but there's a lot of variety here. It's impossible to capture the full experience of a P.Funk show on tape, but this comes pretty close.

The packaging isn't that exciting. A few photos, some small articles, some quotes, and that's about it. Note that this is also available on cassette. Some of the truly special treats here are live versions of "Funk Gettin' Ready To Roll", "Into You", "Standing On The Verge...", and of course the 1972 Sugar Shack material. This includes Bootsy and Catfish as Funkadelics, with Bootsy doing the bassline for "Cosmic Slop" during the loose jam called "First Things First", and Fuzzy singing "Cookie Jar."

JJ: From a quality standpoint, the recordings aren't that great, and the audience is virtually missing from some tracks. I guess my thing is that the other two live albums represent single nights in the history of a band that has toured for 25 years. Despite sloppy titling, inconsistent mixes (shucks, it's about 12 different shows), and weird song sequencing, it gives us: live Junie, Funkadelic as an underground band with teenage Bootsy in '72, the Great Resurgence of '93, and a slew of "rare" Funkadelic songs that would never make a "mainstream" live set.

Trite historical notes: The P-Funk version heard here was not the Oct '92 show, but the March '93 show. Also, you may have noticed that the Flashlight is the same version as the Beverly Theatre Westbound release, but mis-dated (along with Atomic Dog) as 1981. It was 1983. Also, the "Think- It Ain't Illegal Yet" on this set is properly credited (I think) to the June '78 Hampton Va. show, tho it's the same track credited differently on the One Nation album.
