RC: The second album from Roger, Zapp, Larry, Lester and Co. is a worthy follow-up to the first. While there's no break-out classic like "More Bounce...", the album is solid from beginning to end, with adventurous guitar playing and danceable beats. Most of all, it's funky, in that lighter Bootsy/JB's kind of way, with tight rhythms and arrangements.
"Dance Floor" is the prototypical Zapp dance song, with that clean-but- chanking guitar driving the song's engine. It is a bit overlong and repetitious, though. "Playin' Kinda Ruff" has some excellent guitar playing on this mid-tempo dance song. "Doo Wah Ditty" is the standout, a fun song enlivened by Ray Davis' vocals, a funky synth bass and a good rhythm track. "Do You Really Want..." is a sappy ballad that has some good singing. "Come On" is a Bootsy-ish funker, with a dynamic horn arrangement and in-your-face vocals. "Touch Of Jazz" is a different version of "Playin' Kinda Ruff", much more mellow. The vocals are highlighted here, with some cool scat singing.
This album is in print and should be easily found.
